
Honey Moon in Bunyonyi – (the place of the little birds)
Day 1 : To the ‘place of little birds’ : We’ll collect you from your collection point in Kampala (or Entebbe) to make the eight-hour of driving time from Kampala down to Lake Bunyonyi. It’s a long drive but you’ll be stopping off along the way in some great spots so have your cameras at the ready! You’ll leave Kampala at 7am, cross over the equator before reaching the edge of Lake Mburo National Park. Here you’ll stop off at around 11am for an early lunch overlooking the beautiful rolling hills of the national park with a good chance of spotting a zebra herd.
After lunch you’ll continue on down to Lake Bunyonyi or “place of little birds” in the local language and arrive at around 6pm at the lakes shore and your accommodation.
Day 2 Kampala – L. Bunyonyi : After breakfast, you will travel Westwards , see the serine vegetation, homesteads and the Uganda beautiful birds; arriving in the late afternoon/ evening check into your accommodation , tea – Dinner at the bond fire as you watch the traditional dancers. Retire to your room / cottage. Accommodation Bunyonyi Resort / Bushara / Bunyonyi Overland.
Day 3: Nature Walks: Wake up to the beautiful sounds of the little birds ; after breakfast, we take you to the islands. The steep walk through eucalyptus plantation is peaceful. The weather is cool and comfortable. There is solitude – just you and the trees and other vegetation; return for your lunch, relax and set off for an afternoon for a boat ride, Enjoy the deepest lake in Africa, see the historical Island that the un married young girls were burnished to . Dinner retire to you accommodation.
Day 4: Community tours, Visiting the Batwa (Pygmies): After breakfast; go across the Lake , trek to the hills where the marginalized tribe is indigenous to the rain forest but is now homeless. You can make a contribution to their education and social well being. Trek back to your boat; return to your accommodation for lunch, relax at the lake side, swim if you wish, the lake is bhilahazia free, however caution should be taken as the lake is very deep. Barbeque as you bask the bond fire while enjoying the lake side.
Day 5 : Cultural Tourism: A visit to the hills of kagalama to see the shrines and local medicine men will reveal to you the historical beliefs of the local people. You can also visit the local iron smith artisans and get an education on the history and culture of the bakiga tribe. A museum in town captures some of these scenes.
Day 6: Lake Bunyonyi – Kampala: Today we will leave the place of the little birds, lunch en-route ; airport and return home.

Day 2: The Kyabahinga Peninsula : You’ll be met by your guides for your walking and canoeing tour at the lodge and you’ll be departing at 10 am so that you have plenty of time to enjoy your breakfast and the views across the sparking lake. Accompanied by your guide you will leave your lodge and head down to the Kyabahinga Peninsula at Lake Bunyonyi where you will meet a traditional healer who will share his secrets of tropical highland flora found around the lake and forests.
This afternoon you’ll visit to the African Explorer Cultural Village with stories about the history and beliefs of the Bakiga people who live around the area of Lake Bunyonyi. You’ll then stop of for a postcard photo of Lake Bunyonyi with almost all of its 29 islands stretching out into the landscape. In the early afternoon you’ll be stopping off for a tasty local meal (beans, sweet and Irish potatoes, ground nuts and dodo – local spinach) at Mrs Anna’s, a craft maker who will also show us the tricks of her trade. In the mid afternoon you’ll descend to the lakeshore and grab some paddles to take a dugout canoe ride to Habukomi Island (about 1 hours paddle) where you’ll be staying for the night. You’ll be staying at Tom’s Homestay where you’ll be camping at a family compound on a remote island. You’ll have the remaining daylight hours to explore the island and be introduced to the traditional Enanga music before a local dinner of crayfish, freshly caught from the lake.
Day 3: Echuya Forest and Lake Kayumbu : Your breakfast will be served at Tom’s Homestay this morning before you depart in dugout canoes to the western shores of Lake Bunyonyi. It’s then a hike to the hilltop overlooking the Echuya Forest Reserve arriving by midday. You’ll soon be entering the forest with your guide, the Batwa leader Kanusu. It will take two hours to complete the Echuya nature trail including crossing the swamp (gum boots provided!). Your guide, Kanusu, will be able to identify the local flora, fauna and teach you about the local history and culture of the area. Upon completing the nature walk you’ll be rewarded with a specular views of the mighty Virunga Volcanoes.
After lunch you’ll be hiking downhill to reach the shores of Lake Kayumbu arriving by 3pm. On your arrival at Lake Kayumbu you’ll be set up at camp on the lake shore in a church compound, with time to relax, explore and swim before the leaders family serves you a local dinner of beans, cabbage, matooke, dodo, sweet and Irish potatoes, and ground nut sauce.
Day 4: Lake Chahafi and Kisoro Town : This morning you’ll be up early at 7:30 am to take a short walk along the lake and a boat ride on Lake Chahafi to Lake Chahafi Resort for a big breakfast. You’ll then set off on a three-hour hike to reach Kisoro town. You’ll have time for a lazy lunch at The Coffee Pot. You’ll then get the opportunity to meet the local museum owner, Gakondo and explore Kisoro town before heading to your accommodation for your last evening in the southwest.
Day 5: Heading Home : It’s time to head home from the “place of little birds’. You’ll set off at around 9am and drive north leaving the highlands of Uganda through he plains and plantations back to Kampala (or Entebbe). You’ll be stopping off in Mbarara town for lunch, then on to Kampala (or Entebbe) arriving either late afternoon or early evening.
4 Day honey moon on Islands :
Day 1: Transfer to Ssese : Catch up with the morning ferry to the magnificent Ssese Island on Lake Victoria. This journey will reward you with spectacular views of various bird life on the lake and distant scenic views of the neighboring Islands. The ferry will then transfer you to the Luuku site one of Ssese islands. You will then be transferred to Lutoboka bay to spend the night at the Palm Beach Resort.
Day 2: Forest Walking : This morning after your breakfast you will go for a forest walk to enjoy some of Uganda’s Natural forests with plenty of wildlife. This walk will reward you with sights of animals like the Monkeys, baboons, butterflies, and good sceneries. After the walk go back to the lodge for lunch and then in the afternoon swim in the waters of the Island shores. Dinner ad overnight at Ssese Palm Beach Resort
Day 3: Nature Walk : This morning you will get further exposure of the island habitants in the morning nature walk. You will have an encounter with the island’s early morning risers. Extend your walk further after in the palm plantations and get a chance of viewing the new oil project. This will reward you with at the opportunity of visiting some of the fishing villages and look at the types of fish caught and methods used.. Return for dinner and overnight at Ssese Palm Beach Resort.
Day 4: Transfer Back to Kampala : Today you will leave the island. Catch t-up with your ferry transfer back to the mainland after your breakfast.
