4 Days Burundi Cultural and Birding Tour Holiday- Based on Morning Arrival

Day 01-Arrival –Tour of Bujumbura:  Your tour guide will pick you up at the airport, drive you to your Hotel, check in, have lunch, proceed to visit the Explorers Memorial, a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura commemorating the meeting between explorers John Speke and Harington, then to a local general goods market, the craft centre is in the downtown of Bujumbura. Return to Club du Lac Tanganyika Hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 02-Source of Nile-Karera Waterfalls-Gitega:  After breakfast, an early morning to the supposed “Source of Nile” then Karera waterfalls, drive through the magnificent tea plantations and landscapes of Ijenda will make you carry your camera ready for pictures.Take a lunch break, drive to Gitega, the second largest town and colonial capital of Burundi with its impeccable architecture, stopover the National Museum with its collection of artefacts, the town is home to city administrative office, included are Catholic Mushasha, many schools.Dinner, overnight at Tropitel Hotel.

Day 03-Gitega- Gishora- Kirundo :  This day we will try and take it easy have breakfast and lunch at the Hotel. This afternoon you will visit of drum sanctuary – the town is famous drum, however the tradition is becoming scarcer in Burundi. Gishora rests on the top of a hill at 7km from the urban centre of Gitega, the town also houses two ritual drums that were never beaten – Ruciteme (the one for whom we clear the forest) and Murimirwa (the one for whom we cultivate). The two names are intimately linked to the farming vocation and refer clearly to the fertility, the architectural complex of Royal palace, rarely found elsewhere in the country. In the same place you will find the ordinary drums which the Batimbo beat on special occasions of the country, lunch en-route. Mr Antime will tell us the history of the drums ties with its culture; he has also carried on his crusade across the world exhibiting the image of Burundi and the cultural drums. Transfer to Kirundo for dinner and overnight at Top Hill Residence.

Day 04-Kirundo- Bujumbura : After an early breakfast, enjoy a birding tour Kirundo a region of extensive depressions dotted with many lakes and abounding in bird life. It is an area of great scenic beauty where the visitors can better view by canoe; you will see different bird species in lakes Cohoha, Kacamirinda and Kanzigiri the lakes are renowned an ornithological reserve. Stop at Teza to see the splendid tea plantations before driving back to Bujumbura to catch your flight, back home.
