Rwenzori is known primarily for its challenging hiking and climbing possibility with a unique among East African Mountains. Rwenzori is not Volcanic in Origin, but it rises directly from the Rift valley floor. Its range also supports a diversity of animals including mammals and about 177 bird species, with several being Albertine Rift Endemics. It’s the highest mountain range in Africa, with its Loftiest peaks, Margherita (5,109m) and Alexandra (5083m) on Mount Stanley, are exceeded in altitude elsewhere in Africa only by Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya.

Day 01: Kampala – Kasese town: Have your breakfast as early as possible. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel, after which you will begin your journey to western Uganda. You will have a stopover at the equator for some photographs. Continue to Kasese having lunch en route and head for the plateau of the mountains of the moon. Dinner /accommodation in Hotel Margherita. Meal plan: Full Board


Day 02:  Kasese town – Rwenzori – Nyakalengija – Nyabitaba Hut: Wake up early for a transfer to Nyakalengija the trailhead off Fort Portal road. Move to Ibanda to start your 5-6 hour climb into the mountains. This climb will take you through thick Equatorial vegetation before arriving at the Nyabitaba hut 2650 meters in the late evening. It is a 5 hours ascent to Nyabitaba Hut, passing

first through cultivation then through Forest. Dinner /accommodation in Nyabitaba Hut. Meal Plan: Full Board.


Day 03: Nyabitaba Hut -John Matte Hut:This is the longest and most exhausting day’s walk; expect it to take a minimum of seven hours. From Nyabitaba hut the path descends through forest for a short time before it crosses the Bujuku River at the Kurt Schafer bridge .Take breakfast, commence on a morning hike through the Kurt Shafer Bridge to wonder at the sparkling Mobuku river conflux. The path is good for the first couple of hours, but it becomes steeper and very rocky as you enter the moorland Zone where heather plants are Prolific. Have Lunch at Nyamileju Hut where there is a little used and rather run-down Hut, as well as a rock shelter. A climb through the open patches, Lobelia, and Heath moss forest before maneuvering a 2 hours ‘walk to the John Matte hut for an overnight. Meal Plan: Full Board.

Day 04: Hike up to Bujuku Hut: Retreat early through the giant Lobelias and heath trees. You move up to the Bigo Bog and a panoramic landscape of Lobelias and gigantic Groundsels. This takes up to five hours, depending on the condition of the two Bigo Bogs, which are often Knee-deep in Mud. On the way the hut you will pass Lake Bujuku, which has a magnificent setting between mounts Stanley, Speke and Baker. Later, go for dinner and an overnight at Bujuku hut (3997 meters).Meal Plan: Full Board.

Day 05: Ascend to Mount Victoria & Mount Speke: Leave early morning for the valley with scenic alpine vegetation consisting of huge Groundsels and Lobelia and ascend Mount Victoria and Mount Speke at (4890 meters).  Dinner /accommodation in Elena Hut; Meal Plan: Full Board.

 


Day 06: Elena Hut: Depart through the gorgeous panorama of the Savoia and Elena glaciers climb further through to the Scott Elliott pass (4372 meters) and proceed through the snow to the Elena hut. Dinner / accommodation in Elena Hut; Meal Plan: Full Board.


Day 07: Final Ascent to the Alps of Africa! :Early morning climb up to the snowy Alexander peak (5092m); and then move onwards to the supreme peak at (5109m), it gives a good panoramic view and hence a great photo opportunities available. There after descend to the beautiful Lake Kitandara (3900) for overnight, accommodation in Kitandara safaris hut (3900m).Meal Plan, Full Board.


Day 08: Descend, Guy Yeoman Hut: After early breakfast, plunge starts.  From Kitandara, take on the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing to the south of the mountain to Fresh field Pass. Have a Picnic luncheon on your way from the pass; take   the long trail passing the rock shelter at Bujongolo, after which we carry on journey to Guy Yeoman, dinner, overnight /accommodation in Guy Yeoman Hut.  Meal Plan, full board.


Day 09: Guy Yeoman Hut- Kasese: Descend to Nyabitaba and proceed to Ibanda in Kasese for resting and an overnight. Dinner, overnight in Hotel Margarita; Meal Plan: Full Board.

Day 10: Kasese – Kampala: Have lunch en – route and transfer back to Kampala. Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch.

 

 


End of the 10 days hike

The Safari Package Covers: Entrance fees, hiking equipment, porters and cook fees, relevant government taxes, full board accommodation as indicated in the Itinerary (9 nights), full time English speaking driver/guide, and ground transportation by a 4×4 safari vehicle, airport transfer provided your flight is on the same day on which the safari ends.

Safari Exclusions: Flight fares, visa fees, personal insurance, expenses of personal nature. Whatever is not included in the itinerary.
